The Birth of Redefined Wellness
This company was birthed out my need to do something. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic NYC, my city was in the belly of the beast. People were getting sick and dying daily. The hospitals were packed and the morgues overflowing. It seemed as if we were acting out the opening scene from Walking Dead.
I felt so out of control we all did. All we could do was shelter in place and wait. Allow the cloud of death to pass. I will be honest I was a mess my anxiety was at an all-time high. As an asthmatic, I was considered high risk but my thoughts were consumed with protecting my six-year-old son. How can I protect him from an invisible enemy?
When I realized that the world would be coming to a screeching halt I decided to order a spin bike and as luck would happen I received my bike three days before non-essential businesses closed. That bike helped to give me life, I signed up for a 90-day free Pelton membership and that was my therapy. I vowed to myself to ride for 30 days straight and I’m proud to say I kept my promise. I did that damn thing. As the numbers climbed I rode, at the end of every ride I was soaked with sweat but I felt ALIVE and in control of my health. Ally Love and Alex T of Pelton got me through.
In 2016 I created a Facebook accountability group. The group had been somewhat dormant for about a year but the pandemic pushed me to revive the group. I needed to feel in control of my health. I wanted to get back to the challenges and feel the love and support from my accountability partners. These women helped to keep me motivated. With every challenge and every post from them checking in to say that they completed their daily workout I started to feel like me again. To honor my accountability partners, I’ve renamed the group we are now the Redefining Her Wellness Accountability group and we are still at it doing our challenges and supporting and inspiring one another.
During the pandemic, I lost my job, homeschooled my son, witnessed close friends die from the virus and then George Floyd’s murder sparked a match in the heart of the world. We were all DONE.
Racial disparity and brutality were put on full blast. I can no longer allow life to pull me along like I’m on an inner tube on the lazy river ride. Redefining Her Wellness is my answer to taking control of my wellness and making a difference in the world for women especially women of color. I want to give back the love and inspiration that I’ve been given along my wellness journey. I want women to redefine their outlook on health and wellbeing.
I’m hoping that my small contribution will help make a small difference in the world.
